Better than the 20D, but prefer the 40D

byprettyreviewer Apr 8, 2010
Helpful? 1 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Easy to Use, Excellent Picture Quality
Cons Bad in Low Light

I am a professional Photographer. I prefer the 30D over the 20, but when it comes to quality and performance I think it is worth the investment to get the 40D camera. It is a bit more expensive, but well worth it for the extra screen space and features. This camera is very good though. I love... Read full review »

Pros Easy to Use, Excellent Picture Quality, Lightweight
Recommended it? Yes

I purchased this camera back when it was introduced into the market.  While there are much better cameras out there, this is still a very good camera that takes great shots and is easy to use in manual mode if you know basic photography rules.

I purchased this camera because I... Read full review »

Pros great shots, great for beginner of experienced person
Cons none

What more can I say about this camera than I love it.  The only problem I have is getting it away from my husband so I can use it.  The quality of pictures it takes are amazing and my husband has been using it to take stock photos.  If you have the money to invest on it than you should get it.  It... canon 30D

Cons expensive to get professionally cleaned

Good camera to start out with if you're going professional....or just into photography as a hobby and want more than just a point and shoot.
Changing lens be careful because dust etc can get to the sensor and it costs a lot to get your camera cleaned. Canon is always a reliable brand and is... Read full review »

How far can you go? How close can you be?

Pros 20Mpixel Right objective means you get any photo you want. truly espetacular picture...
Cons how deep is your pocket? i though so...

I bet you've probably never took advantage of the full potential of this baby! I have a tele that goes 0,5Km (oops i forgot you're used to inches and miles and feet...) and still you have a lovely picture as if we were right there next to it!  And how about if you couldn't go any further than 2cm... 30 D is awesome if you learn how to use and get the right lenses!

Pros Good value for the money, not as complicated as older cameras, good looking, and quiet!
Cons Lens cost a lot, but you get what you pay for!
Recommended it? Yes

I love this camera. You do have to learn how to use it which means take pictures until you just can't take anymore! But that is true of any camera. You have to learn your controls! I had a Minolta Maxxum 7D until I upgraded to this one. The lens cost a lot more for Canon cameras, but they are worth... Read full review »

Great DSLR

Pros Fits the hand well, adjustments easily made, weight is easily held.
Cons Very little, maybe the difficulty of cleaning the sensor.
Recommended it? Yes

The 30D is a very efficient camera, it fits the hand ergonomically, it does what it should and does it well. The wheels that change settings like F-stop and Aperature are right there for you, no need to take your eye away from the camera or go into a menu to change the important parameters. It... Pros Lightning fast start up from standby mode. 5 FPS mode for sports.
Cons Takes time to learn menus and features.

My first digital camera. Shoot with Canaon AEs until now. Have borrowed a few digitals to try but never quite happy. The EOS 30 shown to me last year by a photographer in Wales. The start up time was much faster than the Cool Pix I had borrowed.
Got home and picked up an EOS 30 with short and... Read full review »

30D vs. 20D? Are the differences worth another purchase?

bysuemccartin Jul 1, 2007
15 Helpfuls 16 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Canon Digic II sensor, 5 fps mode, iso 3200, improved white logic
Cons Pricey? Not a huge upgrade over a 20D
Recommended it? Yes

My first canon dslr was the original Rebel also known as the 300D, for its time and considering what that camera cost, it was competent but it can't hold a candle to a 20D and even less so to a 30D. I shoot a lot of karate for my school, the 300D Rebel only has 3 fps which just isn't enough for... Read full review »

Still an incredible camera

Pros 3200 ISO, high frame rates, low image noise
Cons None
Recommended it? Yes

Even with the release of 10MB Rebel, this 8MB camera wins hands down. The 3200 ISO is well worth the extra cost over the Rebel. You can shoot indoors without a flash and at high shutter speeds to capture action all with little to no noise in the picture.

My recommendation is to invest in... Read full review »

Pros Better screen than previous model.
Cons The lens it comes with broke very easily on mine.

I bought this as a professional photographer and I couldnt be happier. The new 2.5 inch screen is amazing compared to the 20d model. Still would be great to have a 3 in. screen. The quality and manual settings is superb Read full review »

Great control and functionality

bywizard1313 Mar 8, 2007

Pros Plenty of manual controls for the enthusiast but automatic controls for the novice.
Cons Only 8mp, while the point and shoots are reaching higher but with less controls.
Recommended it? Yes

The canon 30D is the next generation of canons dSLR line that started with the 10D, then the 20D. The 30D has some slight improvements over the previous 20D including a larger LCD screen on the back for working with the menus and reviewing your pictures. The LCD screen is not used for taking... Nice all around lens

5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great range, good price, nice feel and fast auto focus, very sharp
Cons Vignetting wide open, plastic lens mount
Recommended it? Yes

This lens has some faults but with any super zoom give and take is the name of the game. My only complaint is the vignetting but it is easy to correct in PSE-5 or NX.

Oh this lens is not soft it is very sharp, sharper than most lens out there. Again if vignetting is not something you want... Read full review »

Canon's 30D is my first and I'm in love

Pros Great clarity and sharpness with this camera's auto-focus.
Cons Doesn't perform the best in low light.

I have had my Canon 30D for about 9 months now and I have been stunned at the difference over my last DSLR. What a great piece of equipment. I have taken photos that seem to be in crisper focus and more brilliant color. I am floored at the quality of this camera. I purchased it from B&H along with... Read full review »

Solid feel and full control in any light

Pros Feels, handles, shoots like an updated EOS film camera. Best sports camera for $
Cons Hey I wish it had 10MP with a 1.3x chip
Recommended it? Yes

At 8Mp and low noise this camera performs right at to just below maximum resolution of most Canon L series lens. At 1800 to 1900 LW/PH you need excellent glass to take full advantage of the sensor/processor. Used with a F2.8 lens the viewfinder is bright and focusing crisp. I see no reason to wait... Pros Control wheel, feel, build quality
Cons Price

I purchased the 30D because i wanted to get into photography. Having felt the rebel xt (350D), the XTI (400D), 20D and 30D before. I fell in love with the look and feel of the 20D and 30D. What made me choose the 30D over the 20D was because it was around the same price with the fall Canon double... Read full review »

Pros Multitude of features, easy to figure out, excellent battery life.
Cons Cost.

This is an AMAZING camera. I have been using it for a few months. I previously had an HP Photosmart 912x which I was tired of because it's not a digital SLR.

I paid $1800 for the kit through Dell.

It takes a little getting used to because you need to read the manual to figure... Read full review »

I purchased this camera online in May. Overall the camera fully meets my expectations, it's a little heavy - I knew it would be, its a little bulky - I knew it would be. My experience using the camera has been overall very positive.

However, I noticed an imprefection in my photo's, that... Read full review »
