Q. Do I purchase products directly from Shopping.com?

No - Shopping.com is not a store. Shopping.com is a shopping search engine that helps you compare products, prices and stores online. Once Shopping.com has found a store with the product you want, you can click on a link to go directly from our site to the online store, where you can learn more about the deal and, if you want, purchase the product.

Q. I cannot find the product I want on Shopping.com. Can you help?

Shopping.com has developed advanced search technology to help you find the product you are looking to buy. You can locate a product by using our search box or by clicking on the category tabs located at the top of every page.

Q. How does Shopping.com choose which stores to list on its site?

Shopping.com searches as many online stores as possible. Some stores pay us a fee for premium placement in our search results, but at any time, you can choose to sort your results alphabetically by store, from lowest to highest price, or by merchant ratings.

Q. Does Shopping.com search stores that are close to my house?

At this time, we only search online stores. If you are trying to find a store near your house, we recommend that you go to that store's Web site and look for a store locator there or contact the merchant's customer support department.

Q. Can Shopping.com help me find a repair shop or the address of my product's manufacturer?

Shopping.com does not search for repair shops nor do we supply product manufacturer information. For assistance, we suggest you contact the merchant where you bought the product or search for the manufacturer's Web site for more information.

Q. Can Shopping.com tell me how to install my new product, such as the new DVD player I just bought?

No. Shopping.com can help you figure out which product to buy, but for installation information you need to contact the product manufacturer directly.

Q. I've lost my product manual. Can Shopping.com help me get a new one?

You need to contact the manufacturer of the product to acquire a new manual.

Q. Is the computer memory that I am about to purchase compatible with my system?

Shopping.com can help you locate products. However, to get specific assistance determining product compatibility, how to upgrade your system and other similar issues, you need to contact the product manufacturer or a merchant sales department.

Q. If I have a problem with the merchandise I've ordered, will Shopping.com help me resolve it?

Q. How do I terminate/delete my Shopping.com account?

To terminate/delete your Shopping.com account, click here to contact customer support. If you delete your account, you will lose all reviews associated with it.

Q. Does Shopping.com share my personal information with others?

Q. How do I change my Shopping.com password?

To change your password, click Change Password on your Profile page. You can visit your Profile pag by clicking your profile name at the top of any page.

Q. I can't sign in because of 'cookie' problems.

n order for members to use the Shopping.com site, cookies must be turned on. To do this, consult the Cookies help documentation for your particular browser.

Q. Can I login with my Epinions account?

Yes, your Epinions account information has been copied over to the Shopping.com system.

Q. Does Epinions get updated if I change my password or email address?

No, Epinions will not be updated with any changes you make on Shopping.com.

Q. How do I write a review?

On any product, or review page, click the Write a Review link. You will be taken to a form where you can enter your review and submit it.

Q. What are the requirements for submitting a review?

A review must be a minimum of 20 words and pass Shopping.com's automated language check. In order for your reviews to be published on the site, you must be a registered member and have confirmed your account. If you have not confirmed your account, your review will be saved as a draft until you confirm.

Q. What is unpublished content?

Unpublished content is reviews that a member has written and saved but has not yet published for other users to read.

Q. What does it mean to save a review as a draft?

This feature allows you to save a work in progress. After you submit a review, it is stored in draft form, but will not be visible to others on the site until you publish it. While the review is a draft, you can continue to edit it and make changes, and then choose to publish it at a later date.

Q. How do I publish a review saved as a draft?

On your Profile page is a list of any unpublished reviews you have submitted. To publish a draft, click on the link to update the review. Make any changes you would like, then click Publish your review. If your review meets the minimum requirements, your review will be visible on the site.

Q. What if I want to write about a product or service that is not listed?

Currently we only support reviews for a product listed on Shopping.com.

Q. Can I post the same review more than once?

No. Each product must have a unique review. Although many products may contain similarities (for example, among multiple sets of knives by a single manufacturer, the same text could apply to several sets of knives), there should be a minimum of 20 words of unique text in each review and should compare the two products.

Q. Can I post more than one review about the same product?

No. A member may only write one review per product or service. If you wish to add to your review on the product, however, you may update your review at any time.

Q. Can I include HTML in my review?

You can add simple HTML tags to make the text of your review body bold or place it in italics. You cannot include HTML tags in review titles, pros and cons, or any other parts of the review form. To do so, add a <b> before the text and </b> after the text for boldface type, or a <i> and </i> for italics:

<br> will create a line break in your review.
<p> will create a paragraph break - roughly the equivalent of two <br> tags.

Some important details:

  1. To add bold or italicized text, you need to use an opening tag to mark the start of the your formatted text and a closing tag to mark the end of your formatted text. See the examples above for more information.
  2. Shopping.com is unable to support requests for HTML help.
  3. You can also include links in your reviews. See the next question for more information.


Q. Can I include links in my review?

Yes. However, there are a few guidelines for adding links to your review:

  • You can only include links in your review body. You cannot include links in review titles, pros and cons, or any other parts of the review form.
  • links to sites other than Shopping.com will be accepted, but "nofollow" meta tag will be added.

Q. What is the character limitation for review content?

The word limitation for review title, pros, and cons is up to 15 words, or approximately 300 characters. The word limitation for review is up to 5,000 words or approximately 32K characters.

Q. Does Shopping.com edit or delete reviews?

No. When you publish a review, the Shopping.com language filter will return problematic words and mismatch HTML tags as error message so that you can make your own changes. Once the review passes these automated checks and you publish it, it will be available to others. Shopping.com does not manually change the text of published reviews. Shopping.com does not remove reviews from the site unless a review or its author is found to be in violation of the Shopping.com User Agreement.

Q. How do I update a review I wrote in the past?

To update an existing review, you must be signed in to your account. Once signed in, visit the review you would like to update from Member Profile page and click the Edit link. You will be given a chance to edit the review or add new information, after which you can republish it. Note: Shopping.com may at some point limit or restrict the ability to update reviews.

Q. How do I delete a review?

To delete a review, you must be signed in to your account. Once signed in, visit the review you would like to delete from Member Profile page and click the Delete link. You will be asked to confirm your request to delete, after which the review will be removed and cannot be restored. Note: Shopping.com may at some point limit or restrict the ability to delete reviews.

Q. Can I post my reviews to other web sites?

As stated in the Shopping.com User Agreement, you are free to publish your content wherever you choose. If you post your reviews in a substantially similar form elsewhere, your Shopping.com reviews may receive fewer visitors as search engines divide their traffic between the two copies. To avoid posting "substantially similar" reviews to Shopping.com and another site, make sure your Shopping.com review contains at least 1/3 different or new content and an entirely different title.

Q. Does Shopping.com redistribute my reviews?

Shopping.com may redistribute your reviews in a variety of ways. Please consult the full User Agreement text for details.

Q. Do my reviews have to be positive?

No. Shopping.com wants you to be brutally honest in your reviews, even if it means saying negative things. Consumers who are trying to decide whether or not to buy a product need to know its good and bad aspects in order to make an informed decision.
