Disposable washing machines...Don't fall for it!

Washing machines seem to be getting more and more disposable, when I was a kid it was a big deal to have a washing machine break down and they lasted for 10-15 years. My first washing machine lasted 3…Just. When it first started making the terrible rattling noise I was really annoyed that something this big had lasted so long. The cost factor wasn’t the problem, it was more that it seemed like such a waste and that fixing it was the more expensive option! So my Hotpoint Aquarius Washing Machine was no longer – Highly frustrating! When this went bust my Boyfriend was left in charge of getting a replacement. So he brought a Beko WM5140 Washing Machine.

I have to say its going good so far. This was quite a cheap option in all honesty, not because we cannot afford a more expensive one but if they’re going to last for only 3 years maybe a cheaper one isn’t that bad of a deal! It does everything that the Hotpoint washing machine did and is no louder than it at all. The only issues I would pick at are that the Hotpoint was a 6kg capacity and this is a 5kg, doesn’t sound a lot right? Well it is… the drum is so shallow in comparison and I have really noticed a difference in the amount of washing I can get in which obviously means I’m doing more loads. The other small issue is that sometimes the machine leaves residue on the clothes from the tablets that I’ve used although this could be that the tablets aren’t working very well – also a possibility. Over all though I’m happy with the new washing machine, as happy as one can be with a washing machine as I actually hate to use it! Living in a one bedroom maisonette I seem to have clothes and laundry everywhere and not many places to hang it to dry etc. My mother in law suggested that I look at a washer and dryer combo – like the Hotpoint BHWD129 washer dryer, and although this seems like a great idea at the time when discussing in further detail and doing a bit of research it seems the combi washer/dryers are even more useless. Something about the water and drying process means that these break down often and as soon as I realised that I was no longer interested despite the lack of space I have! My suggestion? – Buy a cheaper washing machine, when it inevitably breaks down it wont bother you as much – also buy a place, which has enough room for a tumble dryer… these are the future!
