A Ben 10 Omnitrix watch for hours of fun
My son is Ben 10 mad as are most of his friends… and I’ll be honest, I’ve become something of a fan myself! Not for the aliens (although I will admit that some of them are pretty cool) and not for the animation. I love Ben 10 because it’s one of the only children’s TV shows that has reasonably priced merchandise.
When my son told me he wanted an Omnitrix I figured I had my work cut out for me. For those of you who don’t know, an Omnitrix is a device that Ben 10 found on a camping trip which allowed him to turn into 10 different aliens. Essentially my son was asking for a device that would turn him into 10 different aliens. I didn’t think I stood a chance.
Turns out there are two. The Ben 10 Omnitrix FX watch and the Ben 10 Ultimate Omnitrix Bandai (which is worn around the head). And I was glad to learn that neither of them would make my son all slimy and ruin the carpet.
The differences in the two toys are great. The Ben 10 Ultimate Omnitrix Bandai is a better but more expensive version. It has sound effects, lights and alien voices but it costs an extra £6.
The Ben 10 Omnitrix FX watch does stand out in one way though – it tells the time. The watch comes with ten different discs with ten different aliens on them which can be used to change the watch face image.
There is a flip case on the Ben 10 Omnitrix watch which my son loves. Sadly he doesn’t use it to tell the time, rather to shout alien names at it, but it definitely keeps him amused. And that makes me happy.
I think there are many children who will think they want a Ben 10 Ultimate Omnitrix Bandai over the Ben 10 Omnitrix watch because of all its flashy gimmicks. But if you, as the parent, want to save a few pennies I would happily recommend the watch.
My son’s friend has the Ben 10 Ultimate Omnitrix Bandai and I’m not denying that it’s good because it is. But they play together, my son using his Ben 10 watch and his friend the Ben 10 Bandai and ultimately both toys work the same in role playing games except for in one way – my sons Omnitrix lets him know when it’s time to come in for tea!
