Gizeh 'nother pair

Birkenstocks shoes are not just a fashionable shoe, they are made to last, as well as being the most comfortable shoe/sandal on the market. The fact that Birkenstocks have been a market leader since 1774 is testament to their quality, comfort and style.

The sole is what all Birkenstocks shoes have in common. They all have a deep foot cup to stop that horrible slipping from side to side when you are walking and protecting your toes. The foot bed is also always made of cork. This is breathable and gives great flexibility, when walking.  The cork sole has a give in it, which gives you a springy feeling.

The upper of the shoe/sandal features a bar that fits between your toes. This may sound uncomfortable but Birkenstocks have shaped it so it is very slender in the middle and you hardly know it’s there. The strap is made in almost one piece and is a T shape. The point of the T is fixed to the bar between your toes, and the other section goes across your foot, and attaches to the sole.

If you have a wide foot, please do not worry, as these are adjustable at the ankle, with a large selection of holes to choose from. If you have narrow feet, the strap is not so long, that you will have a surplus of material hanging down. These have been manufactured to the highest specifications with wearability upmost in mind.

Birkenstocks shoes are generously sized, the regular standard fitting fit me wonderfully, and although I don’t have ridiculously wide feet, they are not narrow to say the least.

When the shoes are brand new they feel a bit odd, they need time to mould to your own foot shape. I would recommend that you wear these just for an hour at a time, for the first week or so. The pressure you feet make the cork compresses, so they are unique to you. These mould so precisely they feel like slippers after a short while and you will never go back to other brands again.  After your first pair, you will be hooked, I promise you.
