Christmas Party Style Guide

With the party season just around the corner, we all want to get some great advice to find some star buys and look the part for this memorable time of year. This guide will help you to create a stylish and trendy look for the festive season.

Stylish Dresses

Wear styles to suit your shape

One of the most important things to consider when buying a party outfit is your own body shape. There are so many different styles out there, but they won't all suit the contours of your silhouette. Make sure you read on to ensure that you buy the right dress to accentuate your figure.

For those of you with a boyish figure or few curves, learn to embrace this. It's high fashion in this day and age to be very slim. You'll be pleased to learn that most designers actually base a lot of their styles on your body shape, as they are modelled by tiny size 0 catwalk models! The best styles for you will be the styles that don't require a bra as you won't need much support in the chest region, so you can get away with some really dramatic plunging necklines and backless numbers. The blue-green dress pictured would suit your figure are it looks very elegant and girly, perfect for small hips.

If you are pear shaped, try to avoid floaty skirts as they will just make your bottom half appear larger. Generally a well tailored trouser is best suited to your shape, with a bright colourful top to draw attention to the areas that you like best. If you like to wear dresses, try to go for something that doesn't draw your waist in as it will make your bottom look much bigger in comparison.

For those of you who would class yourselves as having a big bust, always make sure you wear something that allows a good bra underneath. Dresses and tops requiring you to go bra-less are a big no no.The best design for this shape is a wrap over dress or top, with some nice detail on it like diamanté or sequin designs. Wearing a pretty necklace can also help to make your chest look less droopy, but be careful not to have your pendant hanging into your cleavage! The red dress pictured is perfect for your shape and would be a great style for a winter party.

If you’re very curvy, first of all think yourself lucky! Belts are the must have accessory and will emphasise your hour glass figure and celebrate your curves. Super sexy colours like reds, pinks and purples will create a really feminine look and ensure that any over jackets are shaped at the waist to add to your shape.

Pick Your Colours Wisely

It's the festive season so go for sparkly, sexy and rich colours. Reds, greens, silver, golds and purples are all great colours for Christmas party dresses. But be sure to dress for the occasion. You'd probably look a little silly turning up in a full length sequinned dress if you're just going to your local pub for a couple of pints, and you wouldn't want to be under-dressed for a meal at the most upmarket restaurant in town, so beware of your venue, think about the theme of the evening and if you're still not sure, ask a few other people what style they'll be going for. Safety in numbers I say!
