The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM is a high performance, water-resistant, and ultra wide-angle Canon L-series lens. It has been specifically designed for improved edge-to-edge image quality that will meet the strict requirements of professional and high-end amateur photographers. It features 3 high-precision aspherical lens elements, each of a different type: ground, replica and GMo for even better image quality than the original EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM. The circular aperture produces a beautiful and natural background blur when shooting at wider apertures. Other features include internal focusing, a ring type USM (Ultra Sonic Monitor), and new AF algorithms for fast and quiet autofocusing

A perfect mid-range zoom

The Bottom Line: You can't go wrong with this lens, although you should also consider Canon's brand-new 24-70mm f/2.8L.
Review: This is the best lens I own, and I leave it on my EOS-3 almost all the time. It produces some of the best image quality I have ever seen. It is outstanding for sharpness, contrast, color, flatness, speed of focusing, and just about every other lens...

2.8 Wide Angle is the way to go!

Review: So why do I like this lens... The most important thing about this lens is it's flexibility. A constant f/2.8 rocks. It's very difficult to make a zoom wide angle with such a low apature. The image quality is amazing and is really fun to shoot with...

The Bottom Line: A top performer in it's class as long as you get a good one. I wasn't able to get this kind of performance from any competition.

The Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lens delievers higher image quality at the wide-angle end, enhancing optical performance, resolution and contrast. This lens is a high performance, water-resistant, and ultra wide-angle L-series lens. The optical design has been improved to offer better edge-to-edge image quality. In addition, it also features 3 high-precision aspherical lens elements, each of a different type: ground, replica and GMo. Improved AF algorithms will help the lens to focus faster and quieter. All of the "L" lenses deliver optical performance equal to similar fixed focal lengths lenses, and the USM lenses do this with silent, high-speed focusing. Distortions and aberrations are remarkably small for a lens of such amazing capabilities.
