One hundred years have passed since the League of Free Worlds defeated the Earth Empire. As a result of that loss, the Empire was restricted to its home system, Sol, and was forced to endure decades of civil war. Now the reformed Earth Empire has a new leader named Kron, who wants the Empire to escape from the boundaries of Sol and return to its former glory. You assume the role of Mertens, a pilot in the Colonial Navy and follower of Kron, as he flies five ships in 40 missions against the League. Missions range from the simple bombing runs and escort duty to the complex following a ship through a minefield to gather intelligence. After each mission, tech credits are awarded so Mertens can customize his ship. Adding some depth and replay value, Mertens's performance determines how the plot develops, which missions become available, and which of the six endings is the result of the conflict.
