The DGS-1008D is capable of performing advanced cable diagnostic features designed to assist in troubleshooting network connection problems. The cable diagnostic feature will automatically detect three common faults in an Ethernet cable. These include: 1) an open circuit (a lack of continuity between the pins at each end of the Ethernet cable or a disconnected cable) 2) a short circuit (two or more conductors short-circuited) and 3) an improper termination (a termination resistance greater than 100 ohms). Any of these common cable faults will be detected by the Cable Diagnostic function and displayed through the LEDs at power-up.
