Product Description

 
A financial model, the HP-12C provides basic business functions including depreciation and date arithmetic. It has become the standard business calculator and is HPs longest-selling calculator. Research indicated that one of the reasons for the HP-12Cs remarkable success was that, to many users, a vertical shape meant "calculator," while a horizontal shape meant "computer." Thus, the horizontal HP-12C felt like a computer to users and to their customers who saw them using it. In addition, the gold tone seemed to add a level of prestige to the product.

The Bottom Line: Don't waste your money. It's not as good as newer calculators. I broke my budget to get this one and it just wasn't worth it.
Review: I am a mortgage broker. I have worked at 3 different mortgage companies and I have seen many trainees learn calculations with this calculator. It is a mortgage industry standard. I bought one for myself about a year and a half ago.

HP 12C algebraic mode and '=' sign

Review: I don't know how all the previous reviews missed this but you can choose either Algebraic or RPN and the HP 12C does have an = sign (it's on the enter key). The manual which comes with the HP 12C gives examples in both RPN and Algebraic modes.
