Would a pricier China made toaster be really much better?

Pros: High power, 1100Watts. Fast, doesn't dehydrate the bread. Clever high lift mechanism.

Cons: Uneven browning; Need to flip the bred at half time to obtain an even browning.

Pros: Wide, deep slots. Actuator arm allows safe removal of toasted items.

Cons: People with limp wrists may find using the actuator arm difficult.

Review: This toaster is the best. It has deep and wide slots for full-sized bagels or wide slices of bread. The actuator arm allows you to raise your toasted item well clear of the hot metal for safe removal.
