Product Description

 
The DMR-HS2 system can create original DVD video by recording images onto DVD-R disc conforming to DVD video standards. DVD-R recorded discs can be played back on most DVD players, depending on the player, the DVD-R disc, and the recording condition. In addition to recording and playing DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs, the DMR-HS2 can also store up to 52 hours of recording (EP mode) on its Hard Drive.

A VCR killer extraordinaire, but with limitations nonetheless

The Bottom Line: As a vcr replacement with great video quality and flexibility, it works fabulously. But if you want to back up sources with 5+ channel audio, this deck won't satisfy you.
Review: The DMR-HS2 provides exceptional recording quality in XP (1 hr per dvd-r) and SP (2 hr per dvd-r) modes. DVD-Rs created with this machine play well in most dvd decks (I have not tested the model with DVD-RAM discs due to the excessive cost of these...

Wait for price to dome down.

The Bottom Line: Go for cheaper versions if you have to burn DVD's today and not able to use Computer DVD write solution. Not worth that much money.
Review: I like the PC card solution. It looks great. Hard disk recording great.

I bought it last week and was dissapointed to learn that only DVD-R and DVD-RAM are supported. Couldn't find ways to copy from DVD to HD. No CD-R, CD-RW burning...

Another excellent Panasonic recorder

The Bottom Line: Not the most current model, but still a good choice for most A/V systems.
Review: I purchased the HS2 at Best Buy for about $900. This is the second of my three Panasonic recorders and was bought as an upgrade to the E20.
