Author's Review
Like many others, my overwhelming exposure to personal computing has been PC's running Windows something-or-other. Unlike many Apple users, I don't have much bad to say about that !
I do, however, have great, wonderful, magical things to say about my first Mac ! I am a solid convert, convinced by the breathtaking elegance of the hardware and operating system.
It's a MacMini, with 80 gb HD, Bluetooth and Air Port.
I'm writing this opinion sitting in my lounger, with a bluetooth keyboard in my lap, watching it compose on a 32" LCD monitor. (Optional items to the MacMini, I should say!) The computer is almost transparent to the process, sitting atop my media rack, consuming a smaller footprint than a DVD case.
My model has the 80 gb hard drive- probably way more than the average user will ever exceed, even if music and photo files are important to you.
Speaking of which, the iTunes and iPhoto applications included as part of the iLife software package are very good entry level programs. Safari is a fine browser, and Dashboard Widgets are a gas! (There are a ton of included apps that I haven't even explored yet.)
The built-in Air Port in my model integrated with my Wireless Router in seconds- literally! I typed in the 8-bit security password I had set up, and went immediately to the Apple start page! After struggling for several hours to get my Dell laptop, (which I also love, by the way), to even communicate with the router, I was amazed by the MacMini's willingness to do so. (In fairness to the Dell, part of the problem was caused by the router, or more accurately, by my learning the set-up of the router.)
Anyhow, here I sit in my little media getaway, feeling like Captain Kirk on the bridge of the Enterprise, thoroughly enjoying my MacMini. I think you will enjoy yours, too.
