Author's Review
I just treated myself to a new Power Book. I'm coming out of the Windows world, and am trying to figure out how to get my office to change.
The machine worked first time out of the box. It was easy to get it out, start it up, make it work. The only negative I had (don't laugh at me Mac addicts) I didn't know what Safari was, and how to get on the internet. Once I discovered that by experimenting, it was E-A-S-Y. The iLife suite is wonderful, and easy. I fought with Adobe Premier to try and figure out how to edit home movies. iMovie just works. It is almost intuitive (by this time I figured out how to get to the online help) and I feel VERY COMFORTABLE getting this going. I'm in the process of burning my first dvd using iDVD, and wow that just works too.
I also bought Mac Office (from Microsoft), that product works WELL. I can just e-mail things to my office and send them around to my PC friends, and the files just work.
I had questions about how to set up Adobe Photoshop on this machine, and after calling Adobe, and not getting help, I made a phone call to APPLE. THEY HELPED ME, and IT WORKED!!!!! When was the last time you got help from a PC vendor about some one else's software, and IT WORKED?!?!?!
I have an iPod, a digital camera, and a digital camcorder. I plug them in, icons show up, that identifies the devices rather than just "generic hard drive" (I've seen iPod icons that are the same color as the iPods they represent) This is cool too.
I'm finding that my thought process is changing, I don't think about "How do I get this machine to do what I want?" Instead I'm thinking "What is it I want to do?" Which is cool!
I highly recommend that YOU don't do what I did, DON'T WAIT A YEAR TO BUY ONE. They just work!!
