Good video player, not so good audio

The Bottom Line: A good alternative to iPod. Don't need iTunes (or any program for that matter) and solid, good sound and good video.
This is a great little player and a good alternative to an iPod Touch. Now I have nothing against Apple or iPods in general. They are great players. Think about this as a PC to an Apple. There's more you can do with it, and it's cheaper, but it's harder to use and less "sexy" than the iPod Touch.
That being said, I've been pretty impressed with the audio. I've owned 7 mp3 players before this one, and the sound quality is among the best I've heard. You just have to have a good pair of headphones or earphones to really notice the difference.
Now you have to understand what this player IS and what it IS NOT. It IS a video playing, web surfing device, just short of a PDA. It really is not that good for just playing music. The navigation takes a little getting used to. And since it is primarily for playing video, it really doesn't do that perfectly. The main problem there is battery life. You can expect around 4 hours of video on this thing. The good thing is that for many of your videos you won't have to encode them, because the player will play them natively. I've had a player where the videos had to be encoded, and that was a nightmare. Also, it has the option of drag and drop file management, which is WONDERFUL. I haven't had that in a player since my Archos Jukebox, and have missed it terribly.
All things considered, I consider this a good buy. You can get these cheap (watch buy.com and other sites; you can get the 30 gig for around 160 shipped) which you certainly can't say for the ipod.
