The best solution to pet hair I've tried yet
Date of Review: Jun 17, 2008
The Bottom Line: A few minor complaints but overall a great vacuum for someone with pet hair problems.
I have two dogs, one of which is a husky, and pet hair is a fact of life for me. The husky sheds huge volumes of very hair year round. A normal vacuum cleaner picks up quite a bit but still leaves a large amount behind. I can go over a spot with a regular vacuum several times and then rub the carpet with my hand and pick up several strands of hair left behind.
I'm happy the say this vacuum works much better. After two passes with the vacuum, there is practically no hair left on the carpet. The "TurboBrush" also works very well. This is an attachment that goes on the hose and can be used for cleaning upholstery, stairs, etc. The edges of the tool are flexible rubber that help pull hair away from the surface and there is a spinning brush (powered by the air rushing past it) that helps suck it up. Our microfiber couch is a magnet for pet hair and it is normally difficult to get it out but this tool does an admirable job.
The vacuum has a flip down "hair lifter" thing but this seems more like a gimmick to me. In order to use it effectively, you have to set the height adjustment down to the lowest level and then you risk damaging the carpet. I tried going over a rug with it and the dirt container had alot of pile from the rug in it. It did just as good of a job picking up hair without the hair lifter and with the height adjustment set to a more reasonable level.
Another annoyance is that the hose can be difficult to reattach to the vacuum if you take it off to use one of the tools. The part that attachments back to the vacuum is curved and if you don't have it angled right it won't slide in easily.
One last nitpick - the power switch is an inconvenient place. It is in middle of the main body of the vacuum. I'd prefer it to be a foot activated switch on bottom or a button on top of the handle.
