If you need a good carpet cleaner DON'T get this one
Date of Review: May 19, 2009
The Bottom Line: Don't bother with this Bissel carpet cleaner if you want something you can keep for several years. It's cheap plastic construction is designed for looks only
I bought my Bissell ProHeat Upright Deep Cleaner thinking I would use it for the occasional rug or upholstery that gets dirty around the house.
The product works just as advertised....for the first few months. Then things start breaking apart. The entire thing is made out of cheap plastic and looks nice on display. But when I started giving the product the workout I discovered that the plastic parts start to fall apart quickly.
The upholstery tools developed cracks which I had to repair using pvc glue. The handle split open. The plastic lock that holds the head in place broke.
It's not by accident that the industrial carpet cleaners are made of tough rubberized plastic and metal.
But you get what you pay for and this was an all plastic entry level product so I have no one to blame but myself.
If you really want a long lasting carpet cleaner skip the all plastic models and spend a little more money on a good quality cleaner.
You might pay a little more for it to start but you won't have to buy a new one every couple of years.
One other complaint is the hose for the upholstery cleaner. It's really hard to wrap up and keeps falling down and getting in the way when you try to clean carpets.
