Excellent speakers from Bose... and reasonable price.
Date of Review: Oct 4, 2006
The Bottom Line: Great speakers, reasonable price. Decent bass performance. Perfect for tight spaces, nice size speakers.. elegant design and operation.
I have the older Companion 3 design, the newer ones may be slightly improved - I'm not sure.
I will keep this short and simple... but I'm impressed with them for the price. Sure, there may be much bigger, similar priced speakers around that sound better. But for the price, it includes amplification too.
They sound full and rich at pretty much any volume. They arn't the loudest, but they have Bose to 100 watts of power.
Looking at the Acoustimass the 5.25" driver is a High Excursion Dual Voice Coil which indicates it is designed for some pretty powerful bass.
Bose's reliability seems excellent, all Bose products I have seen and used have lasted years and years.
Bass is lovely down to about 38Hz, then drops sharply and anything below 30 isn't there at all.
I'm sure this is the same on all Acoustimass systems, except the Lifestyle PS28 module I know does a lot lower (trust me - i've sweeped them with SPL meters and an AVIA CD)
For the size the acoustimass kicks butt.. It seems well built, nicely designed and sounds decent.
The twiddler cubes, are ok... clear, produce a nice sound. Wouldnt say they do much in the way of response though.
There is no frequency gap, though maybe a slight dip.. I noticed the system was pretty flat from 40Hz - 13Khz +-3db, which is all thats needed for most music - Don't get me wrong the high does extend but the treble is more subtle than Klipsch say.
They sound great. Try them, if you dont like them.. take them back.
The system sounds very tuneful, bass is good, treble is enough.... and the pod is a nice touch.. they are pretty amazing PC speakers... sound great for both movies and music.
Hoever the C2s are a slightly different story, poorly built (in comparison to all other Bose products, it's not as good as the cables started crackling when being moved) and sound quality isn't as impressive as i'd expect. These are a MUCH better buy...
Do check out the series II!!
