Not worth your hard earned dollars

Date of Review: Mar 8, 2007

The Bottom Line:  Do not waste your money on this system. You can get much better for much cheaper. There is absolutely no reason to buy these speakers
These things are possibly the greatest scam on the face of the earth. No one else but Bose can get away with selling a 2.1 system with a 4" subwoofer and two paper Tweeters for well over $200. Are they clear? Yes. Is the sound quality good? If you enjoy having no midrange whatsoever and don't turn it up too loud, then yes.

The best thing about these speakers is the marketing. Bose excels at marketing. They take a product that is slightly better than what I call the 'fast food' audio companies and slap a very high price tag on it. They're kind of like the Hardees of fast food restuarants; they're better than all the little guys, but they aren't anything compared to a real PC audio company like Klipsch or Logitech.

These speakers are a perfect example of this. They look really sleek, sound better than your stock speakers, and so you think you're in heaven. You're actually somewhere in limbo. I bought my girlfriend a Creative Technology I-Trigue 3300 at Wal-Mart for $78 (which was kind of a high price for it, you can get it cheaper online) and it sounds at least twice as good as the companion 3s. It has much more bass, at least some midrange, and it can get a lot louder before any distortion occurs.

I know I've been bashing these things pretty hard, but they do have their good qualities. They are a lot better than any regular speaker system, like something from Sony or Kinyo. But then again, Sony and Kinyo systems cost like $20-$30. Basically, for this price tag, I wouldn't recommend this system to anybody.
