Very nice for airline flights
Date of Review: Aug 25, 2006
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended if you fly often.
I fly quite a bit, and these headphones are essential to cut down on all of the ambient noise. In fact, I didn't realize the amount of noise pollution until wearing these headphones.
Even with no music source (as in during flight takeoffs and landings), the headphones are remarkable. They work so well, that frequently when the flight attendant is making an announcement, I can't hear what she is saying without wearing these, since the headphones cut out the surrounding noise but not talking. That's a plus and a minus.
These headphones are not very useful for studying or cutting out talking since that type of noise is not steady, consistent, and ambient frequency. It does provide some relief from that background noise, but you can certainly get by with cheaper headphones.
For very noisy environments, like airplane flights, there is no match. I have in the ear headphones too, but I end up having to turn the volume to the max to hear music. With the Bose headphones, I can turn the volume to halfway or 3/4 way and get a better listening experience.
And the quality of the sound (music) is quite good. It's Bose quality, which some sound afficiandos dislike, but for my taste it's very good to excellent.
As far as size, these are relatively big and bulky. That's a major downside when traveling, since every bit of space counts. For me, however, the tradeoff is certainly worth it.
Overall, the Bose headphones are an excellent value. I would not consider traveling without them.
