amazing distance ball
Date of Review: Aug 18, 2003
The Bottom Line: Excellent ball for distance and durablity. Not the greatest spin on the grees, but if you are playing a distance ball you don't expect this. Highly recommended
I am a mid handicap golfer (usually shoot in the low-mid 80s) I found this ball a couple of holes into my round the other day and decided to just try it out. My friend and I have never heard of the "Warbird" and I was surprised afterwards to find that it is made by Callaway. Well, the first hole I tried it, I cranked it close to 300 yrds straight down the fairway. My usual distance is usually about 275-285 and I usually hit with a slight fade. Most of the my drives with this ball were practially dead straight or a less pronounced fade. The ball "jumps" off my driver face and carries a long, long way. The roll is exceptional as well... I had the ball roll 20 yards in the rough on a 509 yrd par 5 to almost the 200 yrd marker. It was the first time I reached a par 5 green in two shots.
Since this ball is a distance ball, it does not generate much spin on the green. However, for most mid to high handicap golfers who slice/hook the ball and who probably can't spin back the ball, this is not a problem. I was also not as impressed with the balls feeling off my shorter irons... just felt like a regular distance ball. However, it is not "rock hard" as some of the other distance balls out there. However, I played the entire round with the same ball and there was minimal scuffing.
All in all, if you are looking for a ball to increase distance, I would high recommend you give this a try.
