This is my first "photo printer" I have had a couple of nice HP Deskjets, which printed very nice pictures. This is much updated and improved from those.
I am very sure that one can purchase ink jet photo paper already cut to size. I had some left over from my previous printers and I happen to have a reasonable slicer. I like the flexibility that this allows. I can cut exactly what I need (any size up to 8 x 10".
Picture quality and speed are a huge improvement over the Deskjets (a 712c and 695c). I really can not tell the difference between these and those printed at a photo shop. These may not last as log and I haven't gotten any of them wet yet.
I really like that the ink tanks are full size and full from the beginning. So many provide "starter" packs so that they can start to make their real money sooner. These are individual tanks to, so no more replacing the whole thing when the cyan dies!
I folds up nicely and looks attractive; glossy black and satin silver. But, one must open at least the front cover to print.
It does have a separate place to lad cut to size photo paper in the back of the top and a place for plain paper underneath (front).
