Author's Review
I purchased the Canon A570 to take with me overseas this summer. I did some homework beforehand, and decided it was the best deal for the money. I have been pleasantly surprised with the camera. I have snapped hundreds of photos so far, and am getting great quality.
The interface is easy to use, and the manual functions have come in handy for tricky lighting or color situations. The 4X zoom has come in handy, and it is easy to carry around without being a nuisance. With a pair of rechargeable batteries, this baby can go for a while without recharged, but don't even try it with regular batteries, only as an emergency.
The camera comes with a variety of scene modes which come in handy for different situations. It also has some excellent manual options, which are pretty standard for the Canon Series, but I've had some fun using them when I feel artsy. The camera also takes decent quality video, which I've used a few times and posted to YouTube.
My biggest annoyance with the A570 is recovery time, especially if you've used the flash, it can be exceptionally sluggish getting ready for the next photo sometimes, and this has cost me a few photo ops. So I wouldn't count on this camera while on the sidelines.
In conclusion I've been really happy with the camera. It's faults are not uncommon in its price range, and for the money its a hard deal to beat. I wanted something affordable to catalog my trip and beyond, and it's achieved that goal in spades.
