Canon PowerShot A570 IS Digital Camera

Finally entering the digital camera age I dreaded not having a viewfinder - until I discovered the Canon Powershot A570 IS - it made the transition simple, and for someone who finds it hard to keep a steady hand the optical viewfinder is great. The camera may not be as small as some, but it is light, easy to handle and gives very good results. I have not experienced any problems with batteries and am glad that I can use rechargeable AA.
The main drawback is the fiddly cover over batteries and card, not easy to open and feels rather flimsy - other than that I'd recommend this to anyone wanting a first digital camera on which to hone their skills.
