Canon G7 is a great general purpose camera

by   derleute ,  Apr 15, 2008
Pros: Shirt pocket portability due to automatic retractable zoom lens, and array of professional features
Cons: Prefer wider zoom than 35mm at low end, and slight sharpness drop at high zoom
The Bottom Line: Great right out of the box for most users but I will try to extend the wide angle below 35mm with a wide angle converter
Review: Digital cameras were more of a curiosity than a photographic tool in 1998 when my Leica Digilux camera cost nearly $1000 without zoom lens and a flash that became ineffective beyond about 7 feet. I was looking to replace this point and shoot digital ...

This Will Do Until a Great Camera Comes Along

by   pvreditor ,  Jul 10, 2007
Pros: Big 10-megapixel pictures; external ISO control; easy to adjust; sharp focus; great LCD screen
Cons: A little noisy; no optical zoom for video; proprietary battery
The Bottom Line: I like the G7 but there is still room for improvement, particularly at this price point. Still, it's a fine camera with a lot of flexibility.
Review: I've been looking for the perfect compact camera, one that is small enough to easily carry but powerful enough to take excellent pictures. So far, the Canon PowerShot G7 comes close. The G7 is a buy; however, there is still room for improvement. ...

Canon G7: Best Thing Since Carbon Fiber Tripods?

by   bdanz ,  Jul 8, 2007
Pros: small size, macro, image stabilization, super zoom lens, 10 megapix, full manual controls.
Cons: No RAW (NOT a deal killer), limited wide angle, (like most digitals), instruction manual.
The Bottom Line: As a backup for any full system for nature/landscape, this is the best product available. One of the best field macro capabilities of ANY camera.
Review: I am a landscape/nature photographer wedded to my Pentax 67 system. It was my dream camera when I was in college, and now at 52, I still see it as the best option out there for landscape photography with the goal of super high quality 16x20 or bigger ...

Great camera

by   belgischefriet ,  Apr 23, 2007
Pros: picture quality, nice features
Cons: no RAW file format support
Review: I have the powershot G7 for about 5 months now, I bought it when it just came out. It's very good value for money (I paid 439 euro)! The pictures it takes are just great. It's a good middle solution between a digital SLR and a regular compact camera. ...

The G7 performed as I hoped it would

by   dennyoh ,  Mar 2, 2007
Pros: This camera can take pictures in the dark using the ISO 3200 setting.
Cons: lack of exposure controls in movie mode
The Bottom Line: This camera is a great combination of compact size and full features.
Review: I had many specific reasons why I chose the G7 and my review will tell you what they were and how it performed versus my expectations. This is essentially an “in the field” review because I can’t really add anything to the already great, more technical ...

A (pricey) camera loaded with advanced technologies but having a few flaws

by   denniskly ,  Jan 8, 2007
Pros: compact body, excellent pictures, multiple memory formats, optical stabilizer, easy controls, loaded manual features
Cons: pricey, fixed LCD screen, no raw format, bad optical viewfinder, proprietary battery
The Bottom Line: Buy the G7 only if: 1) you are a photo enthusiast, 2)you don't use the optical viewfinder, 2) you don't care about swiveling LCD screen
Review: Canon introduced the 10 mega-pixel Powershot G7 to replace the very popular Powershot G6. G7 is claimed as the flagship of the G series, loaded with newest advanced technologies and received lots of favorable reviews. I found that most of the praises are ...

The new Canon Powershot G7 Sleek, fast, and sexy

by   Howard_Creech , lead in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Dec 30, 2006
Pros: 10 megapixels, hot shoe, lots of manual exposure options, excellent image quality
Cons: Price, no RAW mode
The Bottom Line: Don't be swayed by the naysayers, the new Canon Powershot G7 offers a superb balance of usability, prosumer performance, and excellent image quality.
Review: Two years ago nearly everyone in the digital imaging industry thought the Powershot G6 would be would be the last of Canon's premium compact prosumer P&S digicams because the amazing proliferation of reasonably priced entry-level dSLRs made the expensive ...

I really wanted to like this

by   lawman67 ,  Dec 30, 2006
Pros: Superb lens and sensor quality, cool retro design, compact and reasonably light
Cons: NO RAW MODE!!!! What were they thinking?
The Bottom Line: A very versatile, high quality camera that is ruined by the lack of a RAW picture mode.
Review: Its been a number of years since I've reviewed a digital camera, largely because I was very happy with what I owned, and still use film for my serious photography. When I read about the new 10 megapixel PowerShot G7, I thought it might finally be time ...

Canon G7

by   flanker4741 ,  Nov 24, 2006
Pros: Small quick starting ease of use.
Cons: If your a RAW use I am not your out of luck no RAW.
Review: The new canon G7 is a really well Designed and well Engineered. The build is metal and strong and shows quality through out. The Camera is quick to start and easy to understand and use. The LCD screen is fixed but large and bright also well protected ...

PowerShot G7: A Canon with a lost cause?

by   theuerkorn ,  Nov 20, 2006
Pros: Size, 10 MPx, ease of use, hot shoe, IS, 6x optical zoom, controls
Cons: "Slow" lens, no RAW capture, no IR remote, hard to justify relative to entry SLR
The Bottom Line: A great compact, but with SLRs getting cheaper the G7's only real advantage is its size.
Review: The megapixel war is on and what sounded like a dream number a year ago, is now quickly becoming the "standard": 10 million pixels. Digital SLRs have seen a huge increase in popularity lately - partially due to the associated price drops. That makes it ...
