Design is poor and Canon knows better

Date of Review: Jan 30, 2007

The Bottom Line:  There are plenty of better options on the market.
The ergonomic design is poor. You can not hold the camera without inadvertently hitting a button, especially the menu button and set switch. There is no continuous battery level display. The lens cap is useless - it will not stay in place.

The menus vary based on the position of an unnatural on/off switch, and simply cannot move from on menu to the other without mechanical intervention.

Finally, the quality of the still image is poor. By comparison, my old Olympus C5050z produces a superior image. I suppose the images stabilization works, but I am not at all sure because I get plenty of blurry pictures. This is most likely caused by the image being out of focus however.

The Flash is far from intuitive, and the instruction manual is not clear about how to use it. Most modern cameras have flashes that pop-up when needed, but not on this Canon. There is a flash button, but I am not sure what it does. You can manually pull the flash up, but I am not sure it will always fire. It seems like that too is iffy. Also, absent is a hot shoe to connect an external flash.

This is not an Anti - Canon rant. I own to other Canon's I like very well.
