Le Rouge
Date of Review: Jan 1, 2007
The Bottom Line: I am very happy with Le Rouge. I would buy it again. It's creamy, moisturizing and lasts more than 10 minutes.
Product Detail: I had a Clarins makeover. The last products were for my lips. I am reviewing Le Rouge Lipstick.
This sells for $21.
I bought the color Illusion which is #250. Le Rouge comes in many other colors including Sensation; Inspiration; Passion and Fusion. I was going to tell you to go to www.gloss.com for the colors but they are not even close. Illusion is shown in a plum shade and it isn't plum. It's in the pink family but very dark – not quite red with a hint of coral in it. The woman doing my makeup put me in the pink family which I like a lot. My skin coloring I learned is fair rather than the medium I always thought this was.
It comes in a gorgeous red, 12-ounce container that matches the compact I bought. The middle of it is trimmed in gold.
My experiences: This is a traditional lipstick. It isn't a gloss. It is a matte lipstick. I don't wear lipstick everyday. Illusion is definitely not subtle nor is it sheer. You will only want to wear it alone if you don't want a glossy look and/or you want to look like you are wearing lipstick rather than just giving your lips a shine.
I love long lasting lipstick but often find that it is sticky. Once lipstick wears off I rarely reapply so a long lasting non-sticky lipstick is what I want. Clarins will give you that.
I find it to be lightweight. What I mean by that is that I don't know it is on. I am not conscious of it. Some lipsticks make me feel like I don't want to talk or eat. Not so with Le Rouge. In spite of the fact it lasts it doesn't dry out my lips and it doesn't feel dry on my lips.
It has a slanted edge and goes on beautifully. It really does glide on as advertised. It doesn't stick to me lips. I can put it on in two sections: my upper and lower lips rather than having to paint it on. Although you can use this with a brush I don't.
Le Rouge doesn't feather; it makes my lips feel soft and comfortable and according to the company "protects lips from free radicals responsible for signs of premature ageing."
Le Rouge contains wheat germ which nourishes my lips; vitamin e which protects them and shea butter which nourishes them.
My rating: $21.00 is a lot for a small tube of lipstick. If you are one to apply lipstick several times a day you'll go through this fairly quickly. I think the reason for that is the creaminess of it.
It wears down fast. I think it is worth it. I would buy Le Rouge again. I like the way my lips feel while wearing it and that's the most important factor for me.
