Kisses to Clarins
Date of Review: Mar 15, 2003
The Bottom Line: A really great lipstick can make you feel quite passable even when you're tired, cranky and 10+ pounds over optimum weight, and Clarins LeRouge is a really great lipstick.
I've been on a bit of an austerity program the past 18 months or so, and have been buying most of my cosmetics at Target rather than at Nordstrom. But recently, a few extra bucks came my way and I decided to indulge myself in some little luxuries. So I made my way back to my old haunts - the Clarins and Lancome counters at Nordstrom. It was the very nice Clarins' lady who introduced me to LeRouge. I was always partial to Clarins lipsticks, but with LeRouge, ah - I'm hooked all over again. MADYL's review was chock full o' useful statistics, so I'll just use my review to reinforce a few lipstick-y points:
1. LeRouge lipstick goes on like a dream - it really does glide right on, but without leaving your lips feeling weird, slimy or schmecky. I don't care for the lipliner look (at least on me), and with LeRouge, you don't need lipliner; it is remarkably forgiving in its ease of application.
2. The colors are lovely. Like MADYL, I bought #260, Illusion, which is this wonderful, chameleon quality deep rose. It works with reds, it works with pastels, and it is absolutely killer when you're wearing black.
3. LeRouge lasts and lasts. I was suckered in by Revlon's promise of an 8-hour lipstick and was disappointed to the extent that I pitched the darn things. What lasted of my Revlon lips for 8 hours was this goofy clown-like outline, while any real lip color said "see ya, I'm out of here". LeRouge is different. I put it on early in the a.m., and if I remember, refresh it in the early afternoon. If I forget or don't have the time to reapply, I don't have those awful I-have-no-lips lips, but a reasonable amount of vestigal rosiness.
Bottom line: Even if I throttle back once more on my discretionary spending, I'm going to continue to treat myself to LeRouge lipstick. It's definitely a case where something that costs more is actually worth more.
