Clinique Clarifying Lotion 1 - Not for Combination or Dry Skin
Pros:
Barely noticeable fragrance, did not cause redness, fairly inexpensive compared to some other liquid toners.
Cons:
Dried out my skin, not alcohol-free.
The Bottom Line:
Did not cause sensitive skin issues like redness or burning, but dried out my face.

Author's Review
A few months ago, I switched to Clinique skin care products because they offer products that are fragrance free. I was hoping that they would be gentle on my combination, but sensitive skin. I typically use a liquid toner after I wash my face, to remove leftover dirt and cleanser residue. I chose Clarifying Lotion 1 because it is supposed to be for "extremely delicate, fragile skin."
I purchased Clarifying Lotion 1 from Gloss.com, the 6.7 fl. oz. bottle, for $10.50. It also comes in a larger size, 13.5 fl. oz., for $17.50. Both sizes can also be purchased from Clinique.com.
The following is the description and directions for Clarifying Lotion from Gloss.com:
"Step 2 of Clinique's 3-Step Skin Care System. Exfoliate with Clarifying Lotions that de-flake skin, let moisturizer work better, help keep skin clear. Four strengths: 1 for extremely delicate, fragile skin, 2 for dry to average skin, 3 for oilier skin, 4 for very oily skin.
Apply on cotton ball, wipe over face and throat."
I apply Clarifying Lotion 1 to my face according to the directions, with a cotton ball. I have been using it twice a day, in the morning and evening, after I wash my face. Clarifying Lotion 1 does not turn my face red, so it may be more gentle than the other strengths. But it dries out my face, by the time I get done applying it, my face is rough and dry.
I have used Clarifying Lotion 1 for a few months, I have almost finished the bottle. But I will not purchase it again, it is too drying. My face is a bit of a mess right now, dry and dehydrated, with extra pimples. So I will be making some changes to my routine, starting with cutting back or removing Clarifying Lotion 1.
How does Clarifying Lotion 1 compare to other liquid toners I have used? Two that were effective in removing dirt and cleanser residue, but also gentle and non-drying, were Clarins Toning Lotion for Dry or Normal Skin, and Origins A Perfect World Liquid Moisture with White Tea. Those two toners are both alcohol-free, Clarifying Lotion 1 is not. Clarifying Lotion 1 is cheaper, A Perfect World, a 5 fl. oz. bottle, costs $20. Toning Lotion for Dry or Normal Skin, a 6.8 oz. bottle, costs $21.
