Crazy taxi is a keeper
Date of Review: Feb 19, 2003
The Bottom Line: Once the difficult controls are mastered, this game becomes a favorite.
Everyone dreams of just flooring the accelerator during a traffic jam and being able too just bypass the congestion. Crazy Taxi fulfills that urge. Crazy Taxi offers multiple play modes to increase the variety of game play, and offers 4 distinct characters to play with per board, which can be unlocked to allow you to use any of the unlocked characters on any board. Each character speaks in their own voice and with their own comments, which adds a bit more variety to the game than just changing the looks of the car you drive. There is also a challenge mode, which allows you to unlock all the secrets including different vehicles and maps to the boards. The boards are large and the landscape is diverse enough to ensure that the game won't get repetitive.
The only major drawback to the game is the controls. In order to play effectively one must master "Crazy" moves, similar to turbo. This requires pushing a button and pulling a trigger just right, I have lots of trouble with this, but some of my friends can do it most of the time. If you can master the "Crazy" moves, this will be a very fun game for you.
