Recommendable, solid, compact notebook

The Bottom Line: Good specs at affordable price - recommended!
I started college this year and needed a notebook that was not too expensive yet offered good specs for every day usage (text, browsing and DVDs). After some browsing I discovered the Dell XPS M1330, which turned out to be just what I needed in terms of specifications. It s also quite compact and weighs in at a mere 1.8 kg at the cost of screen real estate: the M1330 only has a 13.3-inch monitor, as opposed to the XPS M1530 which sports 15.4 . But that also means it has a longer battery life.
What also appealed to me was the nice design. And it s solidly built as well, which I had not expected (the images on Dell s site made me think it would have these cheap plastic surfaces). I ve only had it for a few months, but so far I haven t noticed any wobbly parts.
The only issue I have with this laptop is the fact that all the ports are on the left side. So when I connect multiple devices at once (charger, mouse or an HDMI cable), things get a little crowded. But there s also a spare USB port on the right side, so that s only a minor problem. Another problem is Dell s Vista-only-policy: there s no way to order the XPS M1330 with Windows XP instead.
But all in all I m pleased with the XPS M1330 and would gladly recommend it.
