Like a great looking dummy

The Bottom Line: I wanted a toaster that makes good toast, browning the bread evenly. I gave this two shots.
This toaster is sexy, to be sure, its appearance the draw for me. "Let's go for it," I said to my husband, thinking our kitchen would look so much better with this replacing our huge toaster/oven. But I was deterred by the price, well over $100 at Williams-Sonoma so didn't get it, and was tickled when he brought it home as a birthday gift.
Well, it never actually toasted the bread - not evenly and golden, as we'd gotten used to. There would be dark spots against untoasted areas and, eventually, I thanked him and said we should return it, which we did.
But then I had second thoughts and saw it at Zabar's for less (appliances are always more reasonable there) and got a second one. Again, despite my optimism, it didn't make good toast so I had to return it.
We've now got a T-Fal, which is handsome though not like the Dualit, but it works so we have a toaster as well as toast.
Both toasters have wide slots so can accompany bagels, but the new one, which is far less costly, makes me happy.
I learned a lesson. Looks aren't everything. It's the lesson I have to keep learning.
