Best Headphones I Have Used
Date of Review: May 7, 2006
The Bottom Line: If you value great sound and like to listen to music for long periods of time, these are unparalleled in terms of comfort, noise isolation, and sound quality.
Sound Quality: I received these as a gift and was told that the sound reproduction and quality was amazing. I soon tried these and had to agree. These are one of the best headphones I have used as far as sound quality.
Comfort: I frequently travel, and use my iPod on longer flights. Not only is the sound quality amazing, but these are extremely comfortable to leave in-ear, as opposed to standard in-ear earphones. Although over-the-ear headphones are also more comfortable than standard dub/in-ear headphones, they heat up your ears more than the Etymotic product. Your outer ear is free to breathe while your eardrum remains comfortable from the eardrum-conforming flanged silicone (or foam) tips.
Noise Isolation: These are incredible. Best product out there. It is true insulation formed by a tight seal around your ear canal, as opposed to other products that use white noise (e.g. Bose's). As such, if you fall asleep on a flight after listening to music you may as well leave these in -- these function as effectively as your standard earplug (foam tips are included as an alternate tip to the standard silicone.) and as mentioned earlier, they are comfortable to leave in for hours at a time for those long plane trips.
Disadvantages: A bit delicate. I always am cautious with these headphones compared to other products I have used in the past. These get more dirty from earwax than other products, and the price is expensive too.
