Pros:  Ick, what pros?

Cons:  Controls, gameplay, graphics, the whole game.

The Bottom Line:  I don't think I've ever given such a low review. I don't think anything really deserved it as much as this game.

I was led to this game with the promise of hardcore lesbian action. Well, they lied. This was the promotion for the game. This is apparently the highlight.

And I guarantee you that you will be dissappointed. The characters are blocky and silly looking (the brief nudity you see is one breast that looks like an equilateral triangle), the mature themes are only hinted at every now and then, which makes this more of a PG-13 kind of game than rated R or X. And why is it in the PS2 section? Who knows.

Graphics: Still going with the FMV backgrounds from the original, FE2 still looks ugly as ever. The mpeg compression on the background is so obvious, that it looks tacky, and makes it hard to see in some areas. Not to mention that the characters look like they've been pasted onto the levels due to the contrasting styles. And this isn't the worst part either.

Gameplay: Have you seen anime? People dodge bullets, kill many things, and do not spend their lives finding keys and solving puzzles. This attempts to be anime and fails. How far do you think the average anime heroine would get with a crappy resident evil control style? The answer is as far as the first enemy. Since you need precision shooting in this game, as well as very good dodging abilities, you can forget about surviving for any large length of time. This is why save points are everywhere in the game. In pretty much every FAQ for the game, the line "Save because you will die A LOT in this game" warns that something is terribly wrong here.

Sound/Voices: The sound effects are rather sparse, and so whenever something makes a noise, it seems out of place, and you quickly associate a type of sound effect to a specific enemy, which seems stupid to me. Last time I checked, we could use audio for more than this. The voice acting is okay, but I have to say that there aren't any good actors here. The lines are just...not working. Certainly don't fit anime. It's like the designers said, "Hey let's make an anime game with really mature sexual themes and lesbians and it'll be really cool", and then were so scared of the review board, that they toned it down so that there's barely anything left 'cept the occassional risqué line of dialogue.

Conclusion. It's survival horror, without the survival, without the horror, and without any redeaming features. If you want anime butt kicking, I reccommend Oni. Only play this game if you liked the original Fear Effect (which I think would be a very limited crowd).
