I walked into the game shop one day to look for new products. One game caught my eye that day, and it was Fear Effect. The incredible new technology used for the graphics definitely caught my eye, and the amount of story given by the back cover for the game, gave me a reason to pick this game up off of the shelf over syphon filter 2 and wwf smackdown.
I got home and popped the game in, it's four discs long, and set off on my adventure. I was amazed at the graphics in this game. The motion fx technology produced truly anime like characters in real-time. It was amazing. As far as sound, the standard effects were in play, as well as some pretty good voice acting. The control was standard survival horror fare, but the story was also among the best I have seen. It really drew me in. The ability to carry 2 pistols isn't a new idea (Tomb Raider), but in this game you can track a different enemy with each pistol. Really nice.
Unfortunately about 7 hours into the game I realized what the game's biggest flaw is. At the 7 hour point I was already done with all 4 discs. I don't like to spend $40 on 7 hours. However, this game was worth the price. Normally if the game's biggest flaw is it's lack of play time, it means that it was so good that you just want to keep playing it, and that there wasn't much wrong with the game. Also, I like a health meter more than the fear meter presented in the game. It makes more sense.
Overall, this is one of the best playstation offerings, and the best survival horror game on the market. Available now for only $29, I wouldn't pass it up if I were you.
