Krups - great toast!!

by  Sapphire13,   Aug 20, 2006

Pros:  Many functions, toasts great, looks nice.

Cons:  Rather expensive but worth the price.

The Bottom Line:  Although this is an expensive toaster, it has so many other functions and takes the guess work out of how your toast will come out, it is a good buy.

I bought a Krups FEM2B toaster and I LOVE IT. There is only ONE reason that I bought this one and paid a good price for it -- it clicks.

You know most toasters only spin when you want to make the toast darker or lighter and you have to guess where the toast will wind up - in your tummy or in the garbage. WELL, this one CLICKS. I like my toast at #6 and 2 clicks and my daughter likes hers at #5 and 1 click. There is a BIG difference between them. Hers is slightly crunchy but yet soft and mine is nice and dark and crunchy but not burnt. There are 8 levels. Don't think anyone will go to #8 lol.

The other reviewer had a problem with toasting her muffins. I suggest that she read the instruction manual that says on page 9: "Integrated warming plate used for warming croissants, MUFFINS, dinner rotis (I think they meant rolls), pita bread and other bakery products." The warming plate comes with the toaster and detaches easily for cleaning. Just don't heat up hot cross buns or garlic bread that is already buttered.

The handle on this toaster is unique - at least to me. All the other handles on other toasters you have to push down, this one is like a lever that you turn to the right. When the toast is finished, if you can't grab it for some reason, turn the lever to the left - up to 3 times - and the toast comes up three different levels for you. You can also stop the toasting by pushing a button.

There is a defrost button for frozen items which I haven't tried yet, a separate bagel button and a REHEAT button -- yes, you read that right -- a REHEAT button. But I wouldn't reheat my toast if I already buttered it.

UPDATE: I have used the defrost button and IT WORKS! VERY NICELY I MIGHT ADD. I had to adjust the clicker to #7 and one click. I used it on some frozen bagels and they came out soft inside and crunchy on the outside. The reheat button works very well too. I put a Dunkin' croissant on the warming tray and it was great!

The warming plate and the crumb tray are easily removed. Of course, always remember to turn the cold toaster upside down every once in a while to get ALL the crumbs out. Both can be manually cleaned with hot soap and water.

It is not a bad machine to look at - simple in design but with many functions. I was hesitant when I looked at the price, but when I found that it clicked, I knew this was going to be worth the price. I bought it during a tax free weekend here in MA.

All in all a very good machine for the price.
