I'm really disappointed.

Pros:  cute, easy for young baby to play with

Cons:  not durable

The Bottom Line:  This is a really great toy - if it lasts. Maybe I just got a lemon. Lamaze's short warranties prove they don't back their products

The Lamaze Chime garden is a cute plastic floral arrangement that plays songs and lights up when baby pushes or pulls at a flower head. Each flower has a different texture and different happy face on it.

There are 5 flower heads - red with crinkly petals, orange with ribbon petals, yellow with satin fabric petals, blue with yellow felt petals, and purple with soft fuzzy blue petals. There are also 2 green leaves near the base that crinkle.

The toy has an off switch, and 3 other settings.

1) on this setting each flower plays a different single note when it is pressed/pulled, and the flower head lights up.
2) on this setting you press/pull any flower head and it will play a section of 'if you're happy and you know it'. then press another flower, and it will play the next verse of the song. While the songs play, the flower petals light up one at a time to the music.
3) in this final mode, press any flower and it will play one of 2 different songs in it's entirety. The flower petals light up to the music in this version as well. If the child presses another flower, the song doesn't start over - it just keeps going. I have one toy where every time one of the many buttons is pressed the current song is interrupted and the new one starts. Very annoying. I don't recognize either of the songs it plays.

The toy is nice and light weight, so it's easy for a young child to hold and pick up.

It uses AA batteries, but I'm not sure how many. I think 3 actually - a weird number.

I was actually writing this review just now while my boy is in his high chair playing with this thing - so I could see it and write about it easier. I was just getting to the part where I wanted to complain about it because it's broken already. He received it at 3 months, played with it from 5 months, and by 9 months the music stopped working (but the lights still worked). It was always played with gently, and just sat out on the living room floor - it was never tossed in a toy box ever.

Well, baby knocked it off his high chair and lo and behold the music started to work again!!! It's been months since it worked. But I can't assume it's fixed. I still think the quality is pretty poor.

At first, this was a great toy. One of the first toys he was actually able to play with. I really felt it was worth the whopping $30 cdn price tag. But with the music not working, then miraculously working again, I'd expect better quality since it was never played rough with ( and I only gave it to my baby in his high chair now because I figured it was broken anyway).
