The first time I played the original Lemmings game from Psygnosis i fell in love with the little green haired creatures. I played it on a 286 and a 386 (on an ega screen, those were the days...).
Lemmings is a highly addictive puzzle game in which you must save a certain percentage of the released Lemmings by assigning tasks to them. There are builders that let you bridge gaps, floaters with a parachute so they can't fall to death, stoppers to keep other lemmings from falling from a cliff, and many more (like bashers, diggers, miners...).

After playing for a while you get into the psychology of the Lemming. They all walk to the same side and only turn around if they bump into something. Your job is to guide them home safely through a hostile landscape full of gaps, lava, rocks etc. That can get rather complicated but the game starts of very easy. Step by step you learn the tricks of the trade. The levels gradually get more difficult, and your resources become more scarce. I was addicted after playing just a few levels and I lost many a nights sleep over it...

Though it has no multiplayer capabilities, it's most fun playing together with someone else taking turns in solving the levels.

The graphics were very nice in the old days on an ega/cga or early vga monitor and although I still like them, they are from another era. Same goes for the sounds that worked very well on a pc-speaker, but not on your stereo. With the time Lemmings was released in mind i rate them as very well.

After the first Lemmings released by Psygnosis "Oh No! More Lemmings" which was more of the same (so it was fun) and "Christmas Lemmings" which was more of the same with a santa hat and snow, followed.
They also created a 3D Lemmings version, which I didn't like at all.

In short: one of the greatest games I've ever played. It's still on my PC and every now and then I play a level or two, just for old times sake.
