If you have more than one computer in your home or office, and you pay the price for high speed, then you need to share the wealth. There are a couple of ways to do this, but in my opinion the fastest and most secure way is with a wired router. A router is a device needed to connect more than one computer and share data on the network. In the most common form, a router hooks up your network to the Internet.
This Linksys Cable DSL Router allows up to four computers to simultaneously use the internet. You can also use the dedicated jack on the back to string along more routers to add computers. An unlimited number can be hooked up depending on the equipment used. I have three computers hooked up to my router. This also lets any computer hooked up to share resources plugged into any one computer. Printers, scanners, fax, music, video, files, etc. etc.
This makes it easy to move large files from one computer to another, or to do basic backups in case of drive failure.
On the back is a handy Reset button, activated with a pen. If the router has a problem connecting, the reset button will usually fix it. If you hold in the reset button for 30 seconds it will restore it back to the original factory settings.
The installation was so simple, just plug it into the wall, and plug in the ethernet cables hooked up to the network cards. It comes with an install cd, but it is so easy to install, in my most primitive setup, the cd is not even needed. I just made the hook ups and surfing we will go! The router also has a built in NAT firewall so hackers cannot see the files on the network. Anyone who sniffs around and finds your setup will think it is asleep.
The firewall is built into the hardware so there is no need to buy or install any firewall software.
This has to be the easiest piece of hardware i have ever installed. Piece of cake.
