Great for custom firmware!

The Linksys WRT54GL is the Linux version of the popular WRT54G router - the newer versions come with VxWorks, and have less memory, and so aren't compatible with custom firmware.

Using custom firmware may void your warrenty, but it comes with many advantages - there are so many more features out there with software such as DD-WRT or Tomato, which enable features such as bandwidth limitations, and tracking of internet usage over time.

The router is really stable and hasn't crashed once on me - bearing in mind it's under heavy use, and has been pretty much on at all times for over two years, this is quite an achievement.
