Pros:
not really any that I can think of - the thing is useless
Cons:
the included maps are useless, and you cant upload your own maps
The Bottom Line:
STAY AWAY from Magellan products - they do not provide any valuable support for their product.

When I first bought the 500, I was very annoyed at how user unfriendly the whole thing was but I figured I just needed to get used to it. Well now I am used to it and my opinion of the Magellan has dropped even further. I don't know where to start - I get so angry at myself for not buying a Garmin.
The Magellan maps are hopeless, so the thing will not work for you out of the box. You need to load decent maps, which is an area where the Explorist (and the Triton) really show its poor design. The thing will not accept any maps other than the ones that Magellan sell for several hundred dollars each. Obviously this is a cunning ploy by Magellan to force you into spending more money, and I really object to the deceitful way they go obout doing this. Nowhere on the product information sheets does it say that the unit is incompatible with industry standard mapping software and/or maps.
I was forced with a decision to either give more to Magellan to upgrade the maps into something I could use, or buy a whole new unit - I chose the latter. I will never buy Magellan again. Just try and reach Magellan customer support and you will see why.
