Until the digital point and shoot cameras replaced my great SLR (Single lens reflex) camera, I used to enjoy photography much more. Like many others I felt that the digital quality, the fact you can take as many pictures as you like and the mobility worth the loss of quality. Before a trip to the far east I decided to buy a Digital SLR camera and get back to the fun days and I did!

The Nikon D40X is a great starter to people who want to enjoy digital camera with the quality and control of SLR cameras. You can start using it as a point and shoot with no instructions at all or discover feature by feature and enhance your results.

The D40x powers on instantly and take pictures with almost no shutter delay. In addition to the P,S,A,M modes, the picture quality of the auto settings are very good.

The only catch for the D40x is that it does not feature a focusing motor inside the body. That limits your selection of auto focusing lenses to Nikon lenses today. It should not be a limit to most of us but some may find it limiting.

I suggest buying either one lens that will give you a wide range or buy two and change. I got 18-55mm that allows me to take wide angle shots and 55-200 so I can get some "telescopic" shots. There are both small and light enough to work with.
