Date of Review: Jul 21, 2001
The Bottom Line: SMile
I am entering this write-off, which was officially on the 19th, late because of certain difficulties beyond my control prevented me from making the actual deadline. I?m sorry for the inconvenience and hope that you read this and the contributions from all the other members as well. I also thank Rock On for allowing me to participate in the write-off. Hope you all enjoy :)

With the GAMEBOY ADVANCE out right now many people are probably going to back away from their GAME BOY COLOR and maybe even sell it due to the GAME BOY ADVANCE?S play-back ability with the GAME BOY COLOR?S games. However I think people should be aware of the fact that ADVANCED does not always mean better and the overall better system is the GAME BOY COLOR. Personally I never cared a whole lot for GAME BOY and it was just something I?d play occasionally, but I did have some good times with the GAME BOY COLOR and most of it?s games, something I cannot say for the GAME BOY ADVANCE. Now granted the GAME BOY ADVANCE may be a better choice to purchase at this time if you want to have a growing library of games, since GAME BOY COLOR won?t have many more games in the near future. On the other hand though GAME BOY COLOR already has 200+ games and is a lot cheaper than GAME BOY ADVANCE and it?s mediocre games. Would you rather spend 50 dollars on a descent system with a large library or 100 dollars on a less than descent system with low-grade games plus the old library of games? Your paying an extra 50 dollars for something that?s really not worth it since it doesn?t even enhance the old games in any great way.
So how is the GAMEBOY COLOR system itself?
It comes in multiple colors, which is nice because it offers variety. Also the console is very easy to hold and unlike the GAME BOY ADVANCE it won?t be a hassle to people with big hands, it?s kind of like a one side fits all handheld. The screen is a descent size and is good enough to see what?s going on within the game clearly. Also it is backwards compatible with old games, which may sound hypocritical because I just said the GAME BOY AVANCE wasn?t any better because it had that, but be honest who is going to buy a regular black and white GAME BOY anymore? At least the GAME BOY COLOR was worth upgrading to.
As for it?s library of games it sports some great titles such as Zelda DX rehashes of the Mario Brother games, Warioland 2, Tetris, everything you could possibly want. It also has some strange games, those looking for any genre will be satisfied with the GAME BOY COLOR. Big RPG freaks can even pick up the old Final Fantasy games for the original GAME BOY system since they are playable on the GAME BOY COLOR.
