FE-210 good picture quality and ease of use
Date of Review: Jan 1, 2008
The Bottom Line: Very good picture quality and features for the price.
The FE-210 is the 3rd Olympus digital I've purchased. Olympus at times runs offers to existing owners to trade in their current model for a rebate toward a new model. Olympus cameras have been reliable, intuitive, sturdy and provide good quality pictures. The software it comes with is fine, but if you want to do more, Photoshop is the way to go.
The FE line is relatively compact and can fit in a shirt pocket. The right side has a bulge to fit standard AA batteries. I've always chosen this instead of a camera with a rechargeable battery as I had problems with a Sony and ended up missing a lot of shots. It's advisable to buy a standard battery-recharger with rechargeable AA and keep extra batteries with you. This camera will eat up batteries. Stats say about 60 shots per 2 batteries, but if you keep the LCD screen on looking at pictures or waiting for the shot, you won't get 60 pictures.
The features make it ideal for most users. It has many preset features like shooting through glass, candlelight, outdoor sports, auction and night so it can accommodate most settings. There is a lag that is common with digitals and it will take awhile to get the timing down. The LCD is large and very clear. Erasing poor shots is easy and just requires two clicks. Olympus uses Xd cards in their cameras and the prices have fallen dramatically. Fry's is a great place to purchase these. There is a movie recorder as well that makes uploading to sites like Youtube a snap.
