Unless You Want to Waste Your Time & Money, Go On to the Next One

The Bottom Line: When scrolling through the Menu looking for particular scenes, DVD will freeze up on you.
Bought the player as my first DVD portable player. Intermittent clacking noises occurred which I was initially concerned about but they came and went. They then got more pronounced.
Once they became regular and ongoing, I called Philips to see if this was normal or whether a repair/exchange was in order. Because the unit was outside the ridiculously short 90 day warranty period, they said they will not repair the unit and will replace it only for a $30 fee, or about 30% of the purchase price. On top of that is what, $15 in shipping and handling? Great. You have now forked over 50% of the cost of a new one.
Basically, Philips is an example of a manufacturer that shortens their warranty period to something so ridiculously short that they end up skating away from several warranty claims. Their goal is to stand by as little as they possibly can. Normally one would expect a one year warranty. Nope. Philips is one of those manufacturers you find out the hard way doesn't give a damn about you or your malfunctioning product.
I would avoid the PET 710 and I would absolutely pass on Philips for any product. After all, what good are they if they don't at least stand behind their product for a one year period?
Net, net, don't waste your time and money. As for Philips, "screw you". You have lost a customer for good and I hope several others come to the same conclusion.
