Pioneer HDJ 1000 review
Date of Review: Apr 21, 2008
The Bottom Line: Great studio phones, good for mixing, I would not recommend these for road use, as they are not very durable.
Well,I must first say that I have used these particular models for several years, and I am currently on my fourth pair. Let me first state, that these are some of the best headphones i have ever used for live performance, in terms of their clarity, loudness, comfort, and ease of use. I purchased them new from Guitar Center, and i did get an extended warranty on them as i was given a reduced price. The warranty turned out to be a very good idea, as these are not the most durable headphone i have owned. I did receive a replacement from Pioneer twice, once during the original warranty period (during which time one side of the headphones began cutting out, due to a cable malfunction), and one time as an artist courtesy. I had the plastic joint telescoping joint section break on one pair, and the plastic swivel joint break on two pair. I did receive one exchange from Guitar Center as well, but it was very time consuming, as i had to send them back and wait. Again, I do recommend them for their sound, they have great low end response that you can hear well, even when DJing in a loud environment. They have an even frequency response, and are not too crisp or high when turned loud. The cup is a good size, and does a great job of blocking outside noise, and the swivel works great. But obviously, I have had some issues with the build quality, and if I would not have been able to have them replaced several times at no cost, i don not believe i would have purchased them again. If you do get a pair, i recommend only transporting them in a hard record case, or some other safe environment.
