I think the appliance has a major design problem. The lenses that cover the heat level indicators are made of low melting point plastic. They protrude above the metal surround and are only 1 cm from the area where there are very hot pans. If one accidentally touches a lens with a hot pan they melt and the indicator is obscured. There is no warning of this fact. Smeg deny any design failure and will not replace the lenses under warranty. It costs in the region of #250 pounds to rectify as the indicators and lenses are integral with the complete control unit under the surround.
