Sony Cyber-shot? DSC-H9 Digital Camera. Absolutely Brilliant!
Date of Review: Aug 4, 2008
The Bottom Line: I strongly recommend it to all who want to progress beyond their basic compact digital cams.
I was looking for a good digital camera for the last 6 months. Finally I found SONY CYBER SHOT DSC H9 and PANASONIC DMC FZ18 was excellent. I decided to go for Sony DSC H9.I went for this mainly because of night mode and 15 xs zoom. The picture quality is really good. I am very much impressed with photos, I took in my field work. This is same as DSC H7 model, the only difference is the tilting screen. It has good features and very easy to handle.
Camera has got amazing features, easy to handle. Battery life is less as compared to Nikon D40. Need to improve on camera appearance. Great picture modes. Tiltable screen is of great use.
Flash is not sufficient.
Yes, its a step ahead of the H7 but differences are beyond the tilt screen...its has a higher image resolution and pixels, has fantastic night shot..(you can literally take a clear picture in the dark) and incredible zoom. Yes, the flash may "appear" insufficient...its not easy to get used to the extreme zoom capabilities which will render any flash useless!! Metering switches and continuous shooting buttons are available externally in the H9..all of this is missing in H7.
It also has a very quick shutter speed of 0.04 of a second, a shot-to-shot time of 1.3 seconds and takes just two seconds from power up to first picture.
And voila! it has face detection (nice frill) plus optical image stabilization...very essential for long zooms that kinda get shaky.
Navigation can take a bit getting used to...but only to existing Sony users who are used to the earlier models simplistic format..
