Pros:  Small, light, comfortable, good battery life.

Cons:  Small buttons.

The Bottom Line:  A good general purpose Bluetooth headset. Comfortable, and easy to fit in the ear.

I got the Jabra BT8040 Bluetooth headphone to use with my Palm Treo cell phone. It was easy to pair up with the phone and sounds good. No one I've spoken to using the headphone has complained of it sounding bad.

I especially like the ear gels Jabra uses for holding the headset in place. There's a loop of soft plastic that snuggly and comfortably holds the headset in your ear. It's almost like using a key. Insert the earpiece in your ear and twist it little. The loop wedges the headphone in your ear. The motion is easy to master once you've tried it a couple of times. There's no fumbling with clips, hooks or anything else once you've adjusted the fit with the proper sized gel and got the loop fitted at a comfortable angle. The headset is so light and comfortable, it's easy to forget you're wearing it, and it feels secure, even if you tip your head.

Charging the BT8040 is easy too. It comes with an AC adapter with a six foot cord, and a short USB power adapter. I find the USB adapter more convenient. A full charge takes about two hours. The battery life is supposed to support up to five hours of talk time and a week or more in standby., , The single, multicolored LED on the headset is used to show the battery status. Green, and it's charged, yellow and it's nearly charged, and red when the charge is just beginning. . The LED's are pointless once the headset's in your ear. Fortunately, Jabra keeps the blinking to a minimum so you don't look too much like a member of the Borg.

The simple functions of the Jabra BT8040 include answering and hanging up calls, adjusting the volume, and muting the microphone. To be honest, I think those are about the only functions anyone is likely to use. The buttons are small, and you have to poke around your ear blindly. There are a list of other features that the earphone is capable of doing if your phone supports the features. They include redial, call reject, and voice dial. I think it's unlike most people will use them, just because the buttons are small, and hard to identify without looking. The quick start users guide that comes with the phone doesn't explain the advanced features. You have to go to the Jabra website and endure a Matrix-like multimedia presentation to get the advanced use manual. They do have a short demonstration video that is quick and covers the headsets highlights.
