The PS2 broke records in terms of a gaming system in the local home, world wide it's taken over from the original PlayStation 1 and continues to outsell even the newest of technology, games developers to this day continue to publish the latest games not only on the latest gaming platforms (ps3, xbox 360, wii) but also the ps2, this is because not everyone can afford to purchase the newest console and so the ps2 market is still alive, i purchased a ps2 many years ago and found it to be of great entertainment playing DVD movies and surprisingly able to play all my PlayStation one titles from over 10 years ago! the backwards compatibility is a key seller as many PlayStation one users have a well equipped library of games.
